Great secure fixing for the Montana GPS. I did have an issue with a pin failing after nearly a year but the unit was replaced under warranty and I now apply a grease to the pins to reduce water entering the electrical components. Service from adventure-spec excellent as ever.

Used off-road, and for desert rally riding. Several thousands of miles in total.
Never once failed or had any problem at all. Highly recommended.

Not so rugged. Review by Charleyktm

This so called "rugged mount" proved to be anything but "rugged". It failed on the first week of the trip and switched the GPS off every time I moved off. I had to place insulation tape over the connections to prevent this which meant it did not charge the unit which I then had to do by charging it from the mains at night. Upon return to the UK I sent it back and it was not replaced for two and half months. So I will never buy another Garmin product. Simples.

***We're really sorry to hear that you had problems with your mount. We have sold many of these items and used them ourselves on numerous occasions on trips as variable as the Trans Am Trail, The Road of Bones over to Magadan and on our current Races To Places project (2 years and 100000 miles around the world including numerous International Rallies). To date we have not experienced a single failure ourselves, but of course that doesn't mean that failures don't occur and when they do we're happy to do all we can to help resolve the issue. I remember clearly speaking to you about this issue and suggesting that the problem could have been any number of things including wiring fault/damage in the cable from the battery or issues with the spring connectors making contact with the GPS unit terminals. We asked you to send the item back so that we could check it out ourselves and ask the UK importer for a test and replace. When the item arrived back you had cut the wire clean through about 3 inches from the mount making valid testing impossible and any hope of a warranty claim impossible.

If you have issues with equipment either when you return from a trip or even whilst on it we recommend the following:

1. Tell us about it ASAP. In many cases we can suggest in-the-field workarounds or 'fixits' to get you on your way, we are totally familiar with all the equipment we sell). In this case the GPS unit had its own internal batteries, which enabled your trip to continue and also the capacity to use AA batteries as well in case the primary battery failed. The main reason we sell the Montana GPS.
2. If you return home with equipment that hasn't performed as you would like, let us know ASAP. We'd love to hear of your experiences and can often help with advice and/or replacements if warranty claims are valid.
3. If/when you return items help us to help you. Please return them exactly as they were used on your trip (if the item is clothing then a wash first is always nice!). DO NOT cut, trim, or alter in any way the item you are returning. In most cases neither AS nor product manufacturers will support warranty claims of items which show signs of wilful damage, or items where the fault cannot be reproduced on a testing rig.

We are really sorry your item failed and we are sorry that we could not replace the item under warranty. We are also sorry that you failed to mention that despite the damaged return AS eventually replaced this item for you as a gesture of goodwill over 1 month ago.

Please don't think your single experience reflects in any way the quality of the Garmin product range as a whole.***
