Pressed and anodised aluminium case protectors for KTM brittle magnesium engine cases. They absorb shock from piercing impacts. Essential equipment!
FirstView
Description

Details

These 2mm anodised guards protect your bikes vulnerable magnesium side cases. Dropping the bike onto rocks can lead to punctured/shattered cases and a massive bill, never mind the issues of being stuck far from home with oil running down your boots!!! Simply stick the guards on with high temperature silicon (not included, but available from Ebay or most good hardware stores). These guards can be removed as any time and are removed when selling the bike to show off your shiny new looking engine cases.

Available in black or silver anodized to compliment our bashplate. Now also avaliable in limited edition Husqvarna Blue.

Price is for one right and one left side guard

    • will these protectors fit my 690 smc 2008
    • If the KTM side case part numbers are the same on the SMC as they are on the 690E/R (which I think they are) then they should fit perfectly.

      Hope that helps.

  • From Chris at 13/06/2013 09:31
    • Hi, will they fit a 990 adventure? Do you supply the silicon or what do you suggest to stick them on with?
    • No they won't fit a 990 Adventure I'm afraid. They are specifically designed for work with 690 casings. If you need to stck them on to a bike we recommend high temperature silicon applied in a 2-3mm thickness all over the case (make sure you degrease both surfaces before sticking).

Sorry about that, hope the info helps though.

  • From Jigme at 16/09/2013 18:18
    • Hi, how do you attach this product on the bike? Does it come with glue or do you have to buy it separately?
    • Jigme,

You use a high temperature silicon sealant which you can usually buy from any good hardware store.

      The process is:

      1. Remove any dirt from the bikes existing engine casings
      2. Degrease the bikes engine casings
      3. Degrease the new side case
      4. Apply a 4mm bead of silicon sealant in a close spiral pattern arround the inside of the new case cover.
      5. Ensure that there is a solid band of sealant around the outer edge of the cover (to stop water ingress).
      6. Lay the bike on its side and place the cover onto the engine case.
      7. Press and slightly twist the case cover firmly until silicon sealant starts to be pushed out of the edges.
      8. Do not touch anything, leave to dry for 24 hours ensuring the case does not move/slide off the engine.
      9. When the silicon is dry lift the bike and cut off the excess sealant.

I hope that helps, great question, thanks!

  • From Brad at 03/04/2014 03:07
    • Can you explain what you mean by close spiral pattern around the inside of the new case cover?

Does any silicon sealant go on the center part of the case saver or only on the angled "lip"?
    • Brad,

Wer recommend putting the sealant from the centre of the cover all the way to the edges in a tight spiral pattern.

      Hope that helps.

    • Hi
Great case savers! I've been using them on my 2012 690 enduro since I purchased the bike!
Unfortunately, yesterday I lost my left case saver in the woods.
Can I buy just the left one?
    • Unfortunately we can only sell these as pairs, sorry.

I fitted these to our 690s' more to stop boots taking the finish off the engine casings, they are easy to fit with high temperature silicon and look ok, I carefully removed the sharp edges before fitting and when it comes to sell the bikes can be removed to leave shiny cases if required.

Simple & Effective. Review by Spanner Monkey

Easy to fit , just use some tape to hold in place while silicone sets - quicker if you run up the motor to warm the silicone a bit a then let it cure overnight. Crash tested both sides now , without any issues to either protector . Real peace of mind knowing these are fitted.

You will need some tape to secure them on your case while the silicone dries. I let them dry overnight and then peeled the tape off the next day to go riding. That was 3 weeks ago and they're still on. I ordered both sides and neither of them have taken any dents yet so I still don't know how much punishment they will take. Of note, the right side case cover does take up some of the gap between your brake lever and the case but not so much that it decreases the functionality of your brake lever. Their appearance seamlessly melds into the engine unlike carbon which screams "look at me, look at me!"
