Details

Adventure-Spec's rear luggage plate for the KTM 690 Enduro provides a sturdy platform to attach all manner of bags and luggage to. With a generous complement of slots and holes it can accommodate all types of straps, bungees, webbing, ratchets etc. The side slots are parallel to work better with wide straps and allow tighter fastening. All slots and holes have fully chamfered edges to prevent damage to straps and luggage. The whole plate is deburred and has smoothed edges for further slash protection The rack is supplied with machined and annodized spacers to allow straps to easily pass beneath the plate. Available in black anodised only Width - 29cm at front tapering to 19cm at the back, Depth - 39cm

Please be aware that this rack is NOT designed to carry large weights to the rear of the mounting points i.e fuel cannisters or heavy tool bags. WHY? Because the mounting points that the rear rack screws into are ultimately brass inserts embedded into your rear fuel tank. Even a single 1 gallon fuel canister (of approx 5kg) bouncing up and down on those mounting points at speed on bumpy trails could cause them to pull out, requiring you to purchase a rear subframe and tank for your bike. If you must carry weight, try to keep it directly over the mount points and attach it as tightly as possible to avoid movement. Hopefully if all works properly (in the event of a failure) it will be your rear rack that fails before your rear subframe/tank does!

Not compatible with the new 2019 Enduro R

Questions

Questions on Adventure-Spec Rear Rack KTM 690 E/R 2008 - 2018

  • From Tim Shires at 16/09/2011 11:27
    • How much weight can I mount on this rack?
    • The rack is designed to allow you to position items to the rear of your fuel filler cap. HOWEVER, we do not recommend putting heavy items like fuel tanks and heavy tool rolls ot the rear of the mounting points as this will cause the welds to crack.

We have been asked why we do not add more structural strength to the rack or provide structural mounting points further towards the back of the bike to allow this.

Firstly there are no structural mounting points rear of the points we already use, and secondly the rear mounting points are not designed to take large loads as they are actually grab handle mounts. When we designed the rack we looked closely at these points and noted that they are metal inserts embedded into the plastic fuel tank and rear sub frame.

We are now confident that our rack will break before these mounts are pulled out of the rear subframe/tank necessitating extremely costly repairs and possibly resulting in an extremely dangerous sitaution of a damaged/leaking fuel tank in an unknown location.

We therefore recommend ensuring that all heavy loads are placed ABOVE the mount points and tht the rear of the rack is used for carrying lighter items such as spare clothing etc.

    • This rack is mounted over the hand grips or I have to remove them to fit?
    • The rack uses the same mounting points as the rear hand grips. I have seen a bike fitted with our rack and the handguards at the same time but it was designed to be used by itself.

    • Will this rack fit my 2007 mod. KTM 690 Supermoto?
    • Only if your SM has the same rear subframe and pillion handle mounts as the E/R model.

    • Will this fit with the Touratech racks?
      Regards
    • It should fit fine. It looks like you'd use the Touratech upper rack mounts instead of the spacers we provide, and bolt them both into the same holes on the bike.

      Hope that helps.

    • Does this rack fit with the rally raid Soft Luggage Racks?
    • We've not tried the two pieces together, but there's no reason why not. You'd be using the Rally Raid rack instead of our spacers.
      Hope that helps.

      Thanks kev
    • Hi Kev,

This is not compatible with the 701 and we don't have plans to make one for that bike

690 rear rack failure Review by Jim
690 rear rack failure" by , written on 8 May 2017
Great looking rack but slot across the centre that aligns with the small weld is a weak spot in a high stress area. Mine has failed and allowed the tool bag to hit the rear wheel. KTM tool bag held approx 5 kg plus the weight of the bag.

Slight fitting issue Review by Rider23
Slight fitting issue" by , written on 15 April 2016
Just received the rack for my 16 690r looks great but once attached the screw heads don't fit flush with the top of the rack leaving the edge of the screws exposed. this may cause a wear issue with anything strapped to it.

This is the first problem with the screw fittings we've heard of. As this review is anonymous we can't contact you, but we'd like to look into this further.
