Description

Details

KTM's 950 and 990 LC8 Adventure represent the highest evolution of the 'Big Trail-bike' or 'Dual Sport' machine.

Honed in the deserts of North Africa and piloted to victory in the Dakar by Fabrizio Meoni, the Adventure is truly race bred.
Our sump guard offers superb protection for true hardcore off-road adventure.

With a 5mm aircraft grade aluminium centre section mounted to tough steel mounts the guard really performs. Side panels of 4mm aluminium keep weight down while providing plenty of protection from  flying rocks and tip overs.

We incorporated an area in the front of the guard to take a tool-pouch with enough room to keep the heavy stuff, like chain breakers, levers and big sockets. The space takes a Kriega tool-roll perfectly or whatever else you can slot in. There are slots in the box panel to allow the fitment of a webbing strap to keep everything in place (not included, be creative!). We tested the clearance with a Desert tyre on maximum compression and fork flex so theres plenty of clearance!

The front mount features a permamently fitted machined spacer plate to give a perfect fit with the curved casting to the front of the LC8's engine. The rear mounting plate hinges on the frame allowing access to your tools by the removal of only two button head 5mm allen bolt to the front of the bashplate . All fastenings are stainless and all fittings are powdercoated to match the colour of your guard

Available in three layer Black Powdercoat finish.

Compatible with 950 and 990 Adventure, Adventure S and Adventure R (all years).

Questions on Adventure-Spec Bashplate KTM LC8 Adventure 950/990

  • From Derek at 09/11/2012 11:10
    • How does the plate fit at front as I do not see any access holes for bolts
    • Hi Derek,

There is an l-shaped plate that bolts (upwards) to the aluminium casting at the front of the motor. The bashplate then bolts to this

      hope this helps!

    • Hi
Does it tilt forward as the OEM Bashplate?
      thanx!
      Luke
    • Luke,

The plate tilts from the back end of the plate downwards to allow access to the battery etc. when you remove the front two bolts.

      Hope that helps

    • What are the dimensions of the tool pouch space? I've got a fairly large tool kit: I'd like to see if it would fit as configured.

      Thanks!
    • Chris,

      The dimensions are approximately 200mm x 240mm x 45mm

    • Hi, Will the bash plate fit with my Touratech engine / crash bars? (just thought I would check after seeing your response re the SW Motech bars)
    • The bashplate mounting points are nowhere near the crashbar mounting points so they parts should work well together. That said we have never tried this fitment and cannot provide a guarantee.

      Hope that helps

    • Does the GPR bash plate fit with the CJ designs side stand relocator
    • Andy,

The standard plate does fit with a sidestand relocator and the GPR plate is identical on the left hand side, so all should be fine.

Had one on my 2 previous 990's which I sold on and never had any issues other than rounding one of the allen bolts (changed) Now on my 3rd 990R and didnt bother as I am back in England and didnt reckon it would be as harsh as Chile. Wrong. OEM plate has just failed and the rock has taken the outer clutch casing :-( Time to call AS. Thanks guys!

I have mine for over 3 years now. The 'battle scars' are both testimony to how rugged this bashplate is, and the need for a bash plate like this when you take the big girl off the beaten track. I would suggest a small design change; widen the mounting holes a bit, so that they will take the bolts and grommets from the stock plate. These make for easier mounting and act like a 'hinge'; just unscrew the front bolts and the whole thing hinges donw much smoother, giving easy access to the battery compartment and the built-in storage compartment. If you guys could add rubber 'silent block' as found on the KTM bash plate, it would be the cherry on the cake.
But, these are cosmetical/luxury additions only. The main thing, proctection, it does extremely well. highly recommended!

Very well made, seems solid enough and east to fit. Could do with bolts and spring washers instead of Allen bolts as they seem like they may round off at some point, but that's an easy fix. Also the upper bracket holes needed to be made oval for the brackets to fit correctly, but other wise a cracking bash plate.

Nice welding, good shape, really protective. But...impossible to fit the right side bolt into the middle plate which botls to the bike, no access to it.

***Call US! We have sold 1000's of these bashplates and have never heard of this issue before. We'd love to hear from you to help sort out the issue for you***

Just buy one! Review by Chris

I've ridden dirt bikes all my life, from 125cc MX bikes to the big XRs and have gotten used to having tons of ground clearance. When I got my KTM 950Adv and got comfy on it I started forgetting that I am on a big bike with less clearance. Thus, I have absolutely annihilated some rocks with my Adventure-Spec bash-plate. It has taken the beating easily, and come away with only a few chips in the paint. The stock plate would have been shattered near instantly the first few big hits. Seriously the last time I was out I clanged off a huge rock going at least 20mph and it did no damage to the plate or my bike. I can't say enough and recommend this bash-plate to anyone.

Very well made, sturdy bash plate, I would say on a par if not better than most others on the market, affordable price without compromise. Fitted in about 30 minutes, would of been quicker if I hadnt tried to fit the bracket to the top of the casting!!
A diagram or video tutorial on the website might be a good idea lads.
All in all tho 10/10,
