Adventure bikes are great, but can be a bit of a handful for the shorter rider. These lowering links make the Triumph Tiger 800 and 800XC much more manageable.

Description

Details

For the shorter in the leg rider the towering seat height of most Adventure and Dual Sport bikes can make them extremely difficult to ride, particularly low speed manouvering.

These lowering links (25mm or 35mm), in combination with the Tiger's adjustable seat height, offer enough droop for most riders. To keep the steering geometry consistent push the forks up through the yokes a similar amount to the drop offered by the links.

NB. Suspension setup is an art and crucial to your motorcycles safe operation, so if you are in anyway worried about your bikes setup we recommend visiting an expert.

Questions on Adventure-Spec Lowering Links Triumph Tiger 800 and 800XC

  • From Mick at 02/08/2013 00:57
    • Of what spec material are the links made? Are they treated in some way to prevent corrosion?
    • The links are made from Duplex 2205 one of the toughest and most corrosion resistant forms of Stainless Steel on the planet. Some details of the material spec are below. These are not a cheap steel version, they are probably tougher than any other lowering link in the world. They are most definitely Adventure Spec!

      Hope that helps...

      Duplex 2205:

      Corrosion Resistance

Excellent general corrosion resistance; superior to Grade 316 in most environments. Excellent resistance to localised corrosion including intergranular, pitting and crevice corrosion; the CPT of 2205 is generally at least 35°C. The grade is also resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at temperatures of up to about 150°C. Grade 2205 will often perform well in environments which cause premature failure of austenitic grades. It has better resistance to sea water than grade 316.

      Machining

The high strength that makes 2205 useful in many applications also reduces its machinability. Cutting speeds are approximately 20% slower than for grade 304. There is as yet no Improved Machinability version of 2205.

      Fabrication

The high strength of 2205 also makes bending and forming more difficult; these operations will require larger capacity equipment than would be required for austenitic stainless steels. The ductility of 2205 is less than that of an austenitic grade, so severe forming operations, such as cold heading, are not generally possible. If severe cold working is required it is recommended that intermediate annealing be carried out.

    • Hi!

Will these be compatible with the tiger XCX? also, if I choose the 25mm link, on the XCX with the WP setup, how much of a true difference will I see?
    • Hi!
These will almost certainly be compatible with the XCx, but we haven't tried them on one yet. That also means we don't know how much of a difference the WP suspension will make, but again, it should be compatible.

      Hope that helps.

    • Can you tell me if and how the 25mm links would affect the sidestand and the center stand? i.e. would I have to shorten the side stand? I imagine it'll be a bit harder to put the bike on the center stand as well. Thanks.
    • With lowering links, side stands and centre stands should work fine without any adjustment.

      Hope that helps.

    • Am I right in assuming the 25mm length links will lower the bike by 25mm and likewise the 35mm?
    • That is correct!

  • From Mark at 01/10/2017 16:24
    • Hi, how much do the front forks yokes need to be lowered if I fitted the 25mm links?
    • At a most basic level yes. It is more complicated than that though as any change will change the handling, even if the front is lowered the same amount as the rear. In most cases you'll progressively drop the front forks until such a point as the bike handles in a way you're happy with.

      Hope that helps.

Brilliant piece of kit that took only about 15 minutes to install. I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam and can now flat foot both feet while stopped on the bike.
