Description

What is it?

Built around Adventure Spec’s principle of ‘ride far and light’ the Mongolia Trail Jacket is the more trail-focussed cousin of the Atacama Race Jacket. It shares many features, such as extreme ventilation and reinforced abrasion zones, however uses a more traditional full zip collar. It can be either used on its own in hot environments where ventilation and abrasion protection are required, or paired with the Atacama Waterproof Jacket for weather protection and Core Base Layer for warmth. Insert armour or wear over an armoured base layer for impact protection.

How does it work?

The jacket achieves max ventilation and strength through the use of fabrics designed for extreme conditions. The core of the jacket is made from military spec snag resistant nylon 6.6 fabric. This makes for a very tough construction that is also well ventilated due to its open knit construction. To add impact protection we have reinforced key abrasion zones with 1000D ballistic nylon. This provides a good balance between strength and overall weight. Internal pockets will receive back, shoulder and elbow armour if required.

Who is it for?

The Mongolia Trail Jacket is designed for riders who are looking for the same extreme performance as its race cousin, however don’t require the use of a neck brace often used in competition. If you are a serious ADV rider who is looking for a versatile jacket that is part of a comprehensive clothing system then the Mongolia Trail Jacket fits the bill.

    • How wel do the armor inserts fit? Are the pockets specifically made for the Forcefield armor?
    • The armour pockets are designed around the Forcefield Isolator armour, so are a good fit. Other brands of armour are a similar shape and are likely to be compatible.

    • Any chance colour options will be available? Lyndon's jacket looked awesome! My boots, pants, bike, and other jacket are all black/grey - a bit of colour would be very welcome
    • Hi Chris,

We don't have any plans to offer other colourways currently. I would say 100% there won't be any for at least 12 months

    • This question might self-evident but here it goes anyway, should I be measuring arm length from the wrist to the middle of the chest or from the tip of the middle finger? I am asking 'cause my measurements are coming out a little weird.
    • Measure from your wrist. Another way would be to take a jacket that fits you well, and measure that from wrist to zip.

      Hope that helps.

Brilliant kit Review by Dokotela

Not had this long, but used it on the Welsh TET in combination with the AS underlayer. So far so good. Certainly lots of movement and ventilation. With a windproof shell it's the perfect winter kit too

Just got the Mongolia jacket in today. Great product and swift delivery! Just what I was looking for. Great fit also round the forearms :) If you are in doubt about the size have a look at the sizing info and just follow the instructions. Measuring got me at an L instead of XL and it worked out just like I hoped. Happy camper and will buy again.

Fantastic hot weather jacket Review by Joe
Fantastic hot weather jacket" by , written on 11 October 2018
I've used this jacket commuting into London through the summer months (easily 35c sat on the bike) and I've just returned from 10 days off-roading in India on the Royal Enfield Himalayan....not once did this jacket fall short of what I asked of it. Used D30 armour, switching the back protector into my Kreiga pack for better ventilation of the back. Ample pocket depth and arrangement for most trail needs (certainly if carrying an extra pack). I can't back up any claims on abrasion resistance as glad to say that remains untested. But for comfort, functionality and looks. It's on the money. So much so the https://www.trailquestadventure.com expedition leaders took a very keen interest in it!!! Keep up the good work Adventure-Spec!!

Great hot weather jacket at a bargain price. Review by Rich
Great hot weather jacket at a bargain price." by , written on 24 August 2018
I’ve just come to the end of a 6 week trip around Nepal on a Royal Enfield Himalayan, and most recently a Crossfire 250. I’ve worn the jacket throughout and have been massively impressed. Whilst riding in temperatures up to 45 degC it remained cool and comfortable, even when fitted with the protection from my Klim Badlands suit. As it was monsoon season needless to say it got pretty wet and muddy however the material didn’t hold water and dried off quickly, even in the most humid conditions (too hot for gortex jackets). I found the fit comfortable in a medium, but at only 64kgs I think this could be a bit tight on a more normal sized individual! We are planing our trip next trip to Africa so hopefully after a wash it’ll be good to go again.

The jacket is still a prototype and not ready for market. Review by Les
The jacket is still a prototype and not ready for market." by , written on 14 July 2018
Totally agree with the majority of other reviewers that the jacket is very tight in the forearm and elbow to the point you experience an abrasive pinching on the inner arm at the elbow joint. A slightly larger fit here and perhaps a softer non mesh elastic material for 2" above and below the inner elbow joint would solve the problem. The jacket is also not the best fitting around the upper chest near the arm joint where it billows. Also the arms are too long and the elastic wrists are far too tight. Shame as this has the making of being an excellent jacket.

***Adventure Spec Says***

Thanks as always for the feedback. Future stock of these will be incorporating slightly more room in the elbow. The arm length and the wrist closures have had generally positive responses, but we'll certainly keep an eye on them.

D3O from Klim fits Review by Wyo Rum Runner
D3O from Klim fits " by , written on 5 April 2018
Early review, but it fits well, the only tightness is in the forearms. But I can report that Klim’s D3O padding fits their sleeves perfectly. More long term feed back later in the summer.

Lightweight, very long sleeves, super ventilated.
Protector jacket fits perfectly under the jacket. For tall (194cm) drivers could be a little bit longer.

Forearms unusually tight Review by Jonathan Livingston
Forearms unusually tight" by , written on 15 March 2018
Just purchased this jacket but why such a tight fit for the forearms? Plenty of room around upper arm and shoulders, to allow for armour protection but certainly no room at the elbows. I am a standard size for most garments and certainly do not possess large forearms, but if I am to be able to wear this jacket I will need to have a stretch panel inserted.
