Description

What is it?

For decades the trail rider had very limited options when it came to riding jackets. Either big bulky motorcycle kit that was restrictive and heavy, or lightweight outdoor gear that offered little protection. It always seemed like too much of a compromise. The Linesman Jacket is the culmination of the depth of expertise that Adventure Spec has established helping many tens of thousands of riders travel untold miles around the world.

The Linesman Jacket is designed to be light and comfortable with plenty of movement as well as providing enough protection for long distance trail riding. It doesn’t feel over engineered, it’s not Gore-Tex for example, but that’s because we believe that there is valuable versatility in being able to put on and remove a waterproof layer as conditions change.

The idea of riding far and light asks that a rider thinks carefully about what they pack and what they leave behind. The bike is only one part of the trail riding experience, the rest comes off the saddle, at the campfire, in the market, walking up the mountain. The Linesman Jacket is built around this idea of versatility and exploration. That’s why we named it after the Linesmen of the Trans Euro Trail, those quiet heroes whose adventurous spirit has unlocked 34,000km of Europe’s trails.

How does it work?

The Linesman Jacket is built around a soft shell core. This wind resistant fabric is most at home in warm and dry environments but will shrug off a light rain shower. It offers exceptional freedom of movement which provides a very comfortable riding experience and is well suited to activities away from the bike. To make the jacket suitable for trail riding that will at times involve riding on paved roads, we added Kevlar reinforced fabric in key abrasion zones along shoulders, elbows and forearms.

Large vents along the chest and back enable free flow of air in hot environments or under extreme physical exertion and the arms can be unzipped and stowed in the rear cargo pockets. The rear vents also accommodate a water bladder if required.

The Linesman Jacket is part of the ADV Spec layering system and can be paired with a waterproof outer layer and armoured base layer for more impact protection, however it also includes internal armour pockets should you prefer armour in the jacket.

Who is it for?

The Linesman Jacket is built for the Trans Euro Trail. It’s designed to help ADV riders ride far and light, exploring further in comfort and carry less. It performs on and off the bike and its toned down styling is sympathetic to cultural situations where it helps to blend in a little more.

If Carlsberg made trail riding jackets Review by John
If Carlsberg made trail riding jackets " by , written on 12 July 2018
I've now been using the Linesman Jacket for 6 months. Rain, snow, sun and wind. It really is the ideal trail riding and adventure jacket. Tough enough to withstand day on day use, smart enough to wear out on the evening and comfy enough for all day use. The last 3 days have seen it's use in scorching conditions. It's venting works beautifully and, for the cold mornings the windproof nature when zipped up keeps out the chill.
Fitted with forcefield armour in the pockets it's light and allows you to move freely.
I opted for the XL (I'm 5'11" and 84kg) which makes it a looser feel and allows air to circulate even better. I could quite easily have got away with the L which, with armour Inn the pockets, would have given a closer fit and made it more of a cross between an armoured vest a la Dianese or bionic and a normal jacket. The stretch of the material would have allowed that easily.
All in all a perfect, smart, comfortable, durable, protective jacket.

The jacket is absolutely awesome in quality and comfort Review by nitrofoska
The jacket is absolutely awesome in quality and comfort" by , written on 11 May 2018
I ordered this jacket without any armor, because I use my poc spine VPD 2.0 under the jacket.

My choice was the jacket in XL because i want to wear my armor jacket under the linesman jacket. (Normally i wear L ) So i have although the opinion to wear only my armor jacket or the linesman jacket without sleeves for additional cooling.

The jacket is absolutely awesome in quality and comfort. You can although use the linesman jacket as a normal softshell jacket on colder Days.

The linesman jacket is my choice in every-day use or at adventures on my KTM 625 and the TET.

Tested in UK Winter Review by Simon
Tested in UK Winter" by , written on 27 March 2018
I bought the Linesman jacket specifically for trail riding in the Uk, and for a 2 week trip in Kashmir later this year. It fits well over armour and has room for movement on the bike. The neck has a good high zip closure which is easy to use with gloves, and the sleeves remove easily.
I've worn this a couple of times now, one day in March this year which saw weather ranging from sunshine to white out snow storms. Although the jacket is not listed as waterproof it kept the snow moisture out, and was very windproof.
The only thing I would change / add would be either a waist drawstring or elastic waist as there is a fair bit of material here - ok if you're on the large size. Other than that Im very happy with the product. the sizing chart is spot on, so measure with your armour on as Adventure Spec suggest .

You get what you want.

I orderd this jacket, because I was looking for a light adventure jacket. Important for me is, that the jacket is breathable and if it begins to rain, or it is getting colder, I will just drop the Klim Forecast jacket, or an other outer layer over the linesman.
I orderd this jacket in size Large. Normally I wear size medium in street clothes.
I am just 1,75cm and 72kg´s.
The jacket is not to bulky, but I like to have enough space for an armor suite and a longsleeve., if I want.
The guys from adventure spec did a great job and created a perfect jacket for adventure riding and trail riding.
Think we are getting friends :)
Thanks and best regards from Germany
