Description

What is it?

The Atacama Race Pants are extremely tough, ventilated and quick drying. Designed and built for rally and extreme ADV riding, these riding pants focus on all day comfort in regular to warm environments or can be paired with ADV Spec Core Base Layers for extra warmth. They accommodate knee protection and have a more race focussed ‘in the boot’ finish. The pants use kevlar heat resistant panels that won’t deteriorate in the wash like leather.

How does it work?

The Atacama Race pants achieve their ‘all day comfort’ by using materials that offer incredibly high strength to weight. Unlike alternatives that use leather for protection which is heavy, dries slowly and deteriorates, we have built impact and abrasion resistance around 1000D ballistic nylon.

We have allowed for knee braces commonly used in competition by including a generous stretch ‘knee box’. Large front facing thigh vents allow for control of air flow in hot environments or times of extreme physical activity. Mesh panels help the lower leg ‘hug’ the riders leg whilst in the boot.

An integrated belt helps achieve a comfortable fit, or reinforced loops can be paired with braces if preferred.

Who is it for?

The Atacama Race Pants have been designed for riders who require extreme performance with minimal weight. Double Dakar finisher Lyndon Poskitt was instrumental in their development and used them for his 2017 Malle Moto campaign. If you are rally rider or serious about light weight ADV travel, and looking for a versatile pant that is part of a comprehensive clothing system then the Atacama Race Pants fit the bill.

Questions on Atacama Race Pants

  • From BobS at 08/01/2018 02:07
    • Two questions:
      1) Will these accommodate Asterisk knee braces. and
      2) Is one size up from street clothes suggested to accommodate armor or armored shorts (e.g., Forcefield)?
    • Bob,

These pants were specifically designed to for knee braces and I wear mine with my Asterisk Braces all the time. Just a normal sizes pair of pants will be pefect for you. I am a 32" jean and I wear a 32" pant with Forcefield shorts.

      Hope that helps.

    • Hi Guys,

First I'd like to say how pleased I am that you have taken the time to develop your own range of clothing. The pants look like just what I have been waiting for! The youtube video are great too.

My question is one of fit, I currently wear an old Fox MX pant which are a 32 waist and getting a little too snug! Would I be best going for a 34 in the AS pants? Also my legs aren't as long as Lyndons, I'm a 32 ish will they be OK?

    • Yep, the 34"s should be a perfect waist fit for you (as long as you keep the pie intake steady). The trousers come with a slightly elasticated waistband and a belt to allow to full and permenant adjustment if required.

And don't worry about 'Lyndon Leg' problems. The production pant leg lengths will fit you perfectly!

      Thanks for positive comments!
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From Jason at 13/01/2018 23:21
    • Do these come in short leg lengths
      Or just one standard length.
      Thanks
    • These are an in boot pant and so as is usual they come in a single leg length. We have tested them on riders with inseams from 27" upto 36" and they (amazingly) seem to work well for all!
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From Steven at 14/01/2018 21:34
    • I'm puzzled. All my jeans are 30-34, so 30 at the waist.
But, when I tape measure my waist, I get 34".
      All my jeans fit nicely.

Any idea what size I should go for?

By the way, the pants and specs look awesome! Especially the knee brace accommodation is what I'm looking for.
    • Welcome to the mad world of 'vanity sizing'. My waist is 35" so I need to buy a 32" jean...! Shops think we will like their brands better if they make us feel thinner. This makes it a nightmare to try and size people for pants/trousers if you are selling over the Internet.

I would estimate that you would fit a 32" Atacama pant, as even though we aimed for the perfect sizes (you measure 32" you buy 32") we ended up a little small!

So the rough rule is, measure your real waist and drop down a single size.

      I hope that helps.

  • From Sandor at 14/03/2018 10:08
    • Hi Guys,

My question is will the pants accommodate ordinary knee and hip protectors?

      Thanks,
      Sandor
    • They will accommodate anything up to a full knee brace without problems.
    • Do you find this question helpful?  Yes   No
  • From Alexander at 22/03/2018 11:53
    • Hi,
The pants are looking great. Im planning to use it 70% touring/adventure and 30% off road. What does it mean Atacama Pants outer layer in the video below? Are you planning to engineer a fully waterproof outer layer in the near future? Also dose the pants has pockets for protector like d3o inside? Thanks.
    • There is a waterproof overpant in the final stages of development. It should be coming to market late spring.

The Atacama pants have pockets in the hip for Forcefield Isolator armour (other armour inserts may fit as well). There are not pockets in the knee, as the trousers are intended for use with off-road style knee braces or knee protectors.

      Hope that helps.

    • The Klim Adventure Rally pants size 30 fit me perfectly. What size should I go for the Atacama pants?

      Thanks.
    • The size 30 Atacama pants should be a good fit.

  • From Peter at 03/05/2018 08:13
    • I usually wear 34 size jeans but 36 size offroad pants. I'm 186cm tall and I would like to wear this pants with knee brace. Is the Atacama 34 size good for me?
    • We have found these similar to standard trouser sizes, so I would suggest to try the size 34 first. There is a lot of variation between offroad clothing brands.

The pants are ideally designed for using knee braces.

      Hope that helps.

Just received my Atacama Race pants. Wow, they exude quality. So much attention to detail as well. I'm impressed. Haven't ridden in them yet but I trust they will be great, especially judging by the other reviews. I'm 6ft 2in and weigh 13st 7lbs. I normally wear a size 34 Jean but they are starting to get snug :-) so I opted for a size 36. They fit me great and I use the included belt just to take up the extra inch of slack. Hoping to test ride them soon. Thanks for a great product Adventure Spec.

Perfect - will ride these pants from the Netherlands to Siberia! Review by Laurens van Zoonen
Perfect - will ride these pants from the Netherlands to Siberia!" by , written on 17 September 2019
Best dual sport pants I've owned. I am 1.74 and 65 kg and use them with the KLIM Traverse jacket. Good combo in the Netherlands. I wear a 28 which is perfect for me. They are not too bulky but have enough room for knee protection. They are a little tight on the thighs when vents are closed but normally I wear 29 so that has to do with sizing down and personal preferences. The materials used are super premium quality. Vents work great (there is a little ventilation opening at the back of your thighs which allows air flow). The two pockets work fine. Allover a great pant for dual sport use. I'm sure I will use this pant to ride around the world from the Netherlands to Siberia.

Great but AS logo peeling away and ... would be perfect in OVER the boots version Review by Thierry
Great but AS logo peeling away and ... would be perfect in OVER the boots version" by , written on 28 February 2019
Just came back from a raid in southern Tunisia, it was the perfect opportunity to test these pants. I am overall very happy with the purchase, the only downside is that after one day ride, the 2 AS rubber logo were peeling away ... no impact on the global quality but for this price range... a little bit off (reason why I removed one star)

All in all, in order to be perfect for raid/travelling, it should be OVER the boots and not IN the boots. Cheers

Hi Thierry, thanks for the review. We're aware of the issue with the labels not lasting as long as they should. This is addressed in newer versions with a different badge design. We'd be happy to sort you out a replacement set if you get in touch.

You'll also be pleased to know our Mongolia over the boot trail pants are now available here:

Great pants, worn and crashed around Morocco, as mentioned elsewhere the rubber AS logo is coming off but that’s no drama really...

Thanks for the great review! We are changing the design of the rubber logos in future production runs to stop this from happening going forwards.

Really nice pants" by , written on 8 July 2018
Very comfortable pants, i’ve Got shorts legs. But the 36” waist was a really nice fit for my 32” inseam. Might be a problem for people with long legs?
Test rode them today, ventilation worked good. Have not crashed yet, but they feel really durable! And they look good as well.

They fit perfectly. There is enough room to add the armoured shorts, should I feel the need.
My rain over pants I used for hiking, backpacking and emergency wet weather covers when I had gone off without my heavier overpants, or for over my roadrace leathers back in the days when I still folded up onto a superbike, fit perfectly over the Atacama pants.
This will be the perfect setup for my adventures. Southwest United States doesn't get sustained rains. We get showers in the afternoon for a bit, then back to full heat.

What I did not think the pants were the real surprise" by , written on 11 May 2018
Hi as-spec fans :D
I must write a review about this pant.
I ordered this pants with a linesman jacket. I only want a new jacket but thought the pants would be matching the jacket.
But what I did not think the pants were the real surprise.

The quality and fit is great. The pants are super light. No pressure points
good ventilation and great arrangement of the pockets.

I love these pants ! Now I use the pants for everyday ride on my supermoto and for adventure on TET with my KTM 625.

Do not think too much about new pants, here they are. :D

Sorry but I'm so excited :D

Very nice pants, made of good materials and the fit is excellent. Really like the adjustable waist-belt.
Only remarks are that the rubber advspec logo on the left thigh is attached upside down and the rubber AS logo on the left side already looses it’s stitching after 1 week of riding....it will probably just fall off after another week of riding...

***Adventure Spec Says***

Thanks for the review. We're aware that the rubber logos are less durable than they should be in some cases, and we're working on a solution for future production.

I had the opportunity to test the Atacama Race Trousers along the Atacama Race Jacket during an intese week of riding in the Tunisian Sahara.
It was dry, very windy and with temperature varying between 10 and 30 degrees.
I used it with its armours fitted in the inner pockets on the side aspect of the trousers (tights). Without any inner knee armour. I was wearing my CrossFire 2 Sidi Booths and Leatt knee braces.
The building material is very nice. Certainly nothing like I tried before.
This trousers are great. Waist fasten system is practical and efficient. Pocket are good and vent system practical and easy to access. They fitted perfectly with my knee braces

I am extremely happy with this trousers.

Just right for me and my sizes.
