Questions

Questions on Klim Badlands Pro Pant (Old Model)

  • From Bob at 09/02/2012 23:04
    • How is the cut on the Badlands Pro Pant?
The Adventure Rally Pant are very generously cut to allow for under armour.
Is the Badlands Pro Pant also designed to allow for this?
I am a 39" waist and a 32" inside leg. I wont be wearing additional under armour but may need to wear a base layer.
Would you say I should order a 38 or should I go even smaller?
    • Hi Bob,

The Badlands are not as generous as the Adventure Rally, but not far off. They are a considerably looser fit than regular road riding gear to allow for a full range of less restricted movement in all riding situations. They are designed primarily for use with their integrated armour though.

Id go for a set of 38"s. The inside leg is 33", which should allow a bit for the pants to ride up when you're sat on the bike, without coming too far up the boot.

      Hope this helps!

    • I am concerned with the care of these outfits, how do you keep them clean without compromising the keep you dry promise?
    • Steve,

I have sent you a copy of the care instructions and will get our IT guy to add a link to the bottom of all of our GoreTex product pages. Thanks for the request.

    • Hi guys,

I bought the Badlands Pro Jacket about 6 month back and I love it. So much so it's now my go to jacket for everything and all weathers, from the cold rain of the Isle of Man to the hot desert tracks of the Bardenas Reales in Spain where I am now.

I'm now thinking of matching the jacket up with the Badlands Pro Pants and I have two questions.

      1. From what I understand they are a loose fit in the legs to allow movement when standing etc, but they are also ment to be used with the intigrated armour. Whats to stop the knee armour moving out of place in an off? I'd intend to use the pants for 80% road work and 20% trail riding. The Badlands Jacket and it's armour is perfect, I'm just worried if the knee armour will be in place when I need it.

      2. I'm a 34" waist (35" after Xmas :) ) and a 31" inseam, what size would you recomend? The pants would be for Spring-Autumn use only so no heavy base layers or jeans underneath, I use heavy winter pants for when it's frosty.

      Cheers

    • Denis,

      Good questions!

Like all other Pants that have built in Armour there is nothing to stop the it moving around in the event of a large side impact. Sadly armour tends to be on a sliding scale of comfort vs. protection. At the top of the tree are knee braces, restrictive and uncomfortable but superbly protective. Then comes Armour that attaches to your body rather than your clothing such as the Forcefield Limb Tube. This is an excellent compromise piece, less airflow than an in-pant piece, but a lot more protective and stable. Finally comes a normal pant. Superb airflow and comfort, but with the increased possibility of movement in the event of a crash.

The badlands knee pieces are better than most because they are adjustable to get the exact fit you want, but ultimately if you want better protection you will need to think about upgrading. The great news about the Badlands Pants is that they are big enough to fit alternative armour solutions comfortably meaning that you can choose the exact level of protection you suit your needs.

A regular leg length 34" pant would be perfect for you.

    • Are these the 2015 version of these trousers or an older version? And if they are an older model, what is the difference to the latest ones on sale by Klim?

      Thanks
    • Kate,

These are the current model of Klim Badlands Pants. They have been current for 3 years and were new at that time so have no previous versions.

      I hope that helps.

Badlands pant heavy but designed for Adventure Review by Matador
Badlands pant heavy but designed for Adventure" by , written on 7 January 2016
real heavy duty design, that will fit over larger MX boots (most pants won't), they need large braces to hold up. Recently used on a 250 mile winter trip with 60 miles riding on the pegs, performed well. The large open vents with an inner mesh design have been known to trap wasps when riding along, providing interest for passing motorists when taking off you pants in a hurry. Overall a good tough pant for Adventure riding.

I bought my pants this winter and rode in several downpoors without feeling wet on the inside. Overall very good quality.
Would be nice if the pockets were a bit roomier but not a major issue.
A very happy customer.

Made for EMEA Weather Review by mmmbrodders

I bought my Badlands Pro suit at the EXCEL show Feb 2014. I rode in the suit all the remaining winter and into the unexpected warm summer of 2014. I stayed dry when it was soaking wet and cool and comfortable in the hot UK & French summer. The vents did their job to circulate air even in London commute traffic. There are enough pockets to store everything to hand and the leg pockets are an awesome design. you can get into them while riding if you need to for tolls. During the Fall rain I started to notice a wet crotch riding home from London. I contacted KLIM, filled out the Intl warrantee and the suit was sorted out, no questions. The customer support from the US was superior. Spread the word according to KLIM... Good to see the price coming down to a reasonable level, even if its too late for me.

These pants are on the start of their second winter and so far they have never leaked, are all day comfortable and still look like new despite a good few thousand miles and all the rain, sleet, salt and sh1t uk roads can offer up.

The juries out on these! Review by John_N
The juries out on these!" by , written on 7 July 2012
I bought these pants along with the excellent Badlands jacket (see my review) back in Nov. To be honest I have barely used them until the british summer kicked in.
In late May, I set off on a 3 week 3500 mile tour of the Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees and intially found that these pant performed really well. In hot weather the vents get the air circulating without flapping and the fit is very comfortable. The pockets are useable and in the right place (keeping stuff on the outside of your thigh) while the armour (although small) is adjustable.
However, when the weather turned wet they leaked and I got a soaking wet crotch. Upon my return I contacted Adventure-Spec. No quibble, they asked me to return them so they could be sent off to Gore for testing. I've since learnt that the material is good but the problem lies with construction. I now wait for replacements before further judgement - Maybe I got a rogue friday afternoon pair!
