Guard-it Technology Crashbars BMW F650GS/F800GS Description
BMW have created a great bike for all riders interested in seeking out the road less travelled in their F800GS (and F650GS twin).
At Adventure-Spec we believe the most important additions to a bike are those that let you go beyond the 'safe' routes without worrying about terminally damaging your means of exploration, ie you or your bike.
Firstly we produced our bashplate/sumpguard/skidplate in powdercoated silver or black to ensure your engine and lower bike was kept as safe as possible.
Now we have produced a compatible set of crash bars that may limit damage to your bikes engine cases, radiator and bodywork in the event of a spill.
We have sold over 1000 of these crashbar sets and have had some superb feedback from our customers about how well they do their job.
Manufactured by CNC tube bending machines using a non-standard high tensile steel we are able to keep the seam running along the inside edge of the bars increasing strength dramatically over standard bent tube.
Completed with our usual high standard of TIG welding (unlike other inferior MIG welded products) and then triple powder coated for superb corrosion resistance these bars not only complement your bike (we used the same diameter of tubing as your frame and matched the powder coat colour as closely as possible to BMW frame coatings) but provide tough expedition tested protection.
Among many awesome comments from both customers and journalists about our GiT products, US magazine Overland Journal said, 'These are the highest quality aftermarket parts we have ever fitted to a motorcycle'.

- Do you make these bars in stainless steel?
- I'm afraid we don't. Whilst we recognise that manufacturing in stainless steel would reduce corrosion in the event of a crash which broke though our powder coating we aren't prepared to compromise the protective ability of our bars.
Stainless steel has awesome anti-corrosion qualities but is a very 'soft' metal which means it will bend easily under impact. What we believe is needed for crashbars is a higher tensile steel that is tough enough to resist initial bending but soft enough not to break under extreme load. We believe we have selected the best material for this job. No compromise!
Also, in the the event of some kind of impact that did 'break' the bars mid expedition it is a lot easier to find someone who can weld 'normal' steel than it is to find a specialist 'stainless' welder. Thankfully this scenario is yet to happen but you never know... - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- How much weight in kilos do these bars add to the bike and do they fit the F650GS twin (with its' smaller radiator) snuggly?
- The bars add approximately 5kg to the weight of the bike. They do not fit 'snuggly' to the side of the bike as there must be some space for the metal to deform in the event of a large crash without damaging the bike's plastics.
To check the distance of the bars from the side of the bike try a search in Google for 'Adventure Spec F650GS crash bars' and click on the images tab. I found some good clear images there.
Hope that helps! - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- will the bmw wind deflecters fit,(THEY GO ON BOTH SIDES OF SIDE COWLS) fit with the crash bars
- Jonathan,
As far as I am aware the wind deflectors do fit with the Adventure Spec crashbars. There are some images to be found of customers bikes with our bars and deflectors fitted if you search google images.

- Do you know if the arrow collectors fit ok with these chashbars? I've saw that the arrow collectors are not supported by touratech and sw-motech crashbars.
Best regards,
Miguel. - By collectors I'm assuming you mean the exhaust header pipes? Our bashplates only work with the BMW standard pipes but as far as I'm aware our crashbars work with any header pipes. We have sold over 1000 sets now and I have heard no comments to the contrary.

These are the best crashbars for this bike. It fits absolutely perfect. It does its job, protect the bike's sides. Furthermore, these crashbars gives the bike a very aggressive look. low side @ 10mph (cut off by cage driver) and completely protected my bike (Posted on 09/11/2011)Overall rating - Crash Bars Review by Roderick McLean

Extremely well made. Welding is near perfect and powder coating is excellent. I get the impression that if these bars were put to the test they would do a great job. They also look like they will protect the expensive Tupperware which other bars seem not to do. (Posted on 05/10/2011)Overall rating - Crash Bars Review by Brian DeArmon, Overland Journal

There are two reasons Adventure Spec was chosen as the supplier of the crash protection equipment on the Overland Journal's F800GS project: It fits, and it works. Every hole lined up properly, every bolt was the right length, and I didn't have to make a single trip to the hardware store to buy something that was forgotten during packaging. The crash bars have taken a few hard hits, and continue to show their resilience. Absolutely great product. I have no hesitation recommending these crash bars to our subscribers, or my friends. The best of the breed, right here! (Posted on 05/10/2011)Overall rating - Brilliant! Review by Johnston

The GIT crashbars are absolutely a must have for any rider for any type of riding. Since installing mine, i have taken by bike deep into the mountains going through deep sand, tight trails and gone up/down rock gardens. Due to my short legs and limited skills, i have dropped my bike several times on these trips. I must say short of some scratches on the bars, they have help up perfectly and solidly. My bike still looks as new (thanks to the crash bars) even though it's been dropped multiple times. My latest crash was on the road, for reasons unknown, my rear wheel slipped out while doing a left turn on a surface street and my bike slid about 15 yards with sparks flying. My bike suffered scratches on the bar end but otherwise the crashbar took it all. the bars held up perfectly nothing bent just scrathed. Solid design, solid product and the best looking one out there (IMO). Paid for itself 3x's over. (Posted on 05/10/2011)Overall rating - Works! Review by Corona

Very pleased with the look and fit of the Adventure spec Crash bars I have recently fitted to the 800GS. The Instructions were thorough and very comprehensive allowing complete fitting with-in 35 minutes. All of the pieces were present and of good quality including the fasteners. No scratches on the bars at all when delivered despite sparse protection. You will need a Torx type male socket to remove two bolts from the rear of the cylinder head/Frame which are then replaced with two longer bolts which are supplied. The instructions state that you should re-righten these to the manufacturers tourque setting which wasnt that helpful but According to my manual the torque setting for these bolts is 40Nm but obviously check yourself for your own piece of mind.Strongly recommend using/ borrowing a torque wrench to retighten all of the bolts. A great looking and great fitting piece of kit.Im very glad I researched all makes of bars before buying the best in opinion. (Posted on 05/10/2011)Overall rating - Fantastic Review by Simon White

Just thought I'd drop you a quick line about the AdvSpec F800GS crashbars. I had a bit of a run-in with the rear nearside of a curtainside 7.5 tonne truck yesterday - the driver hadn't folded his roller handle and it caught my right handguard as I slowly filtered past. End result being that I came off the back of the bike but managing to twist some revs on and drop the clutch just before I ejected! The bike did a good short solo wheelie before flopping very heavily onto it's nearside. The crashbars took ALL the impact - on it's side the bike was sitting of the crashbars and the pillion footpeg. Aside from cosmetic damage, the crashbars performed as designed and bent inwards slightly, saving the engine or bike frame from any damage. Oh well, written off the crashbars but saved the bike - or so I thought. This morning I undid the crossbar and tweaked them straight again, and they are perfect. Amazing! These crashbars have paid for themselves twice over - and are the very first thing I would buy for a future F800GS. Just received and fitted the bash plate and crash bars to my F800GS no less than five days after placing my order. From the UK to west coast USA is faster than most companies can do it within the United States. Both products are of a far superior build quality to anything I've seen before and the bash plate has obviously had more than a little thought put into it's design. Fitting both parts was easy thanks to their precise engineering and dealing with Adventure Spec was a pleasure, far exceeding my expectations. They have set the bar very high and I would gladly use this company again. Will be strongly recommending them to other riders. (Posted on 05/10/2011)Overall rating - These really work! Review by Ian

Comment: Hi Guys,Overall rating
I had a run in with a VW Golf GTi last night, which fortunately I came away from fairly unscathed, the Golf, on the other hand almost lost it's front wing.
I owe you huge thanks for the F800GS crach bars that I bought from you as they totally protected my legs from being crushed, and probably allowed me to keep the bike upright.
If you send me your email address I will forward you on pictures of the damage to the car and the lack of damage to the bike! They are a complete endorsement for what is a great piece of kit!
Many thanks
Ian Wallace
