Another Cover for Klim…

The August edition cover of TBM shows editor James Barnicoat riding a full Klim ’suit’ whilst testing Husky’s new range of bikes.

Not content with a pair of Dakar pants and a yellow Revolt jersey James’ long term Klim F4 Helmet was also present and reviewed inside the magazine after a year of extensive testing. As expected his comments were superb confirming another great Klim product that is most certainly Adventure Spec!

In addition to Klim’s clothing range TBM also spent an evening watching the new Salt and Gold film telling the story of Adventure Spec Riders struggling against 5000km of desert/trigger happy rebels/broken bones to reach the fables salt mines of Taoudenni deep in Mauritanian/Malian Sahara.

Filmed by Austin Vince of Mondo Enduro fame the reviews of the DVD were also impressive!

All in all a great month!

The 2010 Tenth Anniversary Of Horizons Unlimited

The 2010 Tenth Anniversary Of Horizons Unlimited

…was the worlds largest motorcycle travellers meeting, we were there and we had a great time!

It was a busy year with both the shop to look after and three presentations to prepare,  not to mention literally hundreds of friends to catch up with. Not much sleep was had!

By the end of day three two of the Adventure-Spec presentations,  ‘Overweight is Underprepared’, were over and many travellers moved to the overspill room and continued their discussions about lightweight travel tips/techniques/kit but eventually ran out of time. Any extra information that was promised at the time can be found here (apologies for the delay!).

It was great to meet so many old friends, especially those who had returned from trips to tell us superb stories and give us such amazing feedback on our products. Although we use all the gear we sell, its always you guys who ultimately let us know if we’re doing it right or not!

At 10pm on Saturday night Dave Lomax was filmed in the main presenting room telling the first full unabridged version of the Salt and Gold 2009 trip.  Some you might have seen the Salt and Gold DVD but the extra pictures and film clips had the capacity audience gazing in wonder at the beauty of the empty western quarter of the Sahara Desert.

In short it was a great weekend.  Special thanks to Danny at the roadkill cookout for again keeping us supplied with smoked dead things to consume and regular ’special treats’!

Home for the weekend was the Adventure-Spec mobile shop showing the full range of Motion Pro Tools, Gi-T Hardware and Klim products including the new Rally/Adventure Suit.

Many old friends dropped in including Andrew Neri with his 2010 Dakar bike (Andrew chose Klim clothing to ride in as well as lightweight Motion Pro tools for his Dakar 2010 bid).

And Walter Colebatch on his trusty BMW X-Challenge fresh from another crazy foray into the far north of Siberia. We were delighted when Walter told us how happy he was with his new Adventure/Rally suit!

We’ve Sold More Than 1000 sets of BMW F800GS Crashbars and Bashplates!

We’ve Sold More Than 1000 sets of BMW F800GS Crashbars and Bashplates!

A quick look at our shop the other day showed a great fact. We have sold (way) over 1000 sets of Adventure-Spec/Guard-it-Technology crashbars and bashplates for the BMW F800GS! We thought it was a milestone worth celebrating and have decided to take a look back at some of your comments regarding one of our best selling products.

“Just received my bash plate after placing order last week.  This looks to be the highest quality motorcycle “farkle” I have ever bought. Hefty, nice welds, looks to line up and fit well (not installed yet).Very impressed. I ordered other crash bars…but they may go back for some Adv Specs…”

“These bars do exactly what it says on the tin, i had a shunt on the M5 into the back of a vehicle the bars worked great, taking the hit and protecting the bike when it hit the deck ! small repair needed but i hate to think what would have happened without them ! Buy some.”

“The GIT crashbars are absolutely a must have for any rider for any type of riding. Since installing mine, i have taken by bike deep into the mountains going through deep sand, tight trails and gone up/down rock gardens. Due to my short legs and limited skills, i have dropped my bike several times on these trips. I must say short of some scratches on the bars, they have help up perfectly and solidly. My bike still looks as new (thanks to the crash bars) even though it’s been dropped multiple times. My latest crash was on the road, for reasons unknown, my rear wheel slipped out while doing a left turn on a surface street and my bike slid about 15 yards with sparks flying. My bike suffered scratches on the bar end but otherwise the crashbar took it all. the bars held up perfectly nothing bent just scrathed. Solid design, solid product and the best looking one out there (IMO). Paid for itself 3x’s over.”

“There are two reasons Adventure Spec was chosen as the supplier of the crash protection equipment on the Overland Journal’s F800GS project: It fits, and it works. Every hole lined up properly, every bolt was the right length, and I didn’t have to make a single trip to the hardware store to buy something that was forgotten during packaging. The crash bars have taken a few hard hits, and continue to show their resilience. Absolutely great product. I have no hesitation recommending these crash bars to our subscribers, or my friends. The best of the breed, right here!”

“Extremely well made. Welding is near perfect and powder coating is excellent. I get the impression that if these bars were put to the test they would do a great job. They also look like they will protect the expensive Tupperware which other bars seem not to do.”

We’re very happy to be able to offer Yamaha XT660z Tenere riders our new crashbar and bashplate setup plus a full range of other accessories.

We would like to say a great big thanks to you all for taking the step to buy a product you had never seen and trust your bike (and in some cases your lives!) to our products.
THANK YOU!!!!

We’d like to thank Matt from longdirttracks.com for taking the stunning photo that heads this post(check out a larger version here). He was one of the first riders to use these products travelling around the Aussie bush extensively. Cheers!

Austin Vince back in T’ North of England

Austin Vince back in T’ North of England

After a hugely successful Adventure-Spec sponsored visit to the North of England back in October 2010 Austin Vince (film maker, writer, and self styled 70’s icon) is making a very welcome return on Saturday June 12th as part of the Grassington Festival.  Veteran of Mondo Enduro, Terra Circa, and Salt and Gold 2009 Austin has a considerable quantity of tales to tell and a very unique way of telling them!

Those who saw him last time will be hard  pressed to pigeonhole the experience but it was generally considered to be an excellent  night out with all profits going to the local TRF.  This time the opportunity to camp locally, try some local ale and ride some of the UK’s most beautiful roads and lanes over a summer weekend must surely add to the tempatation.

If you missed him the first time and/or would like to spend a few hours in his company mid-June (and get some free pie and peas as part of the deal) check out ticket sales here and we’ll see you there, a night with Austin is NEVER to be missed!!!
